Teacher Biographies
Jennifer - (Modern/Yoga/Pilates Instructor)
Jennifer received her early training and developed her love for dance at Kinetics Dance Theater in Ellicott City, MD under the direction of Dorothy Fried.  She danced with the Kinetics Dance Company before attending the Tisch School for the Arts at New York University where she received her B.F.A. in Dance in 1999.  While at Tisch, Jennifer danced in works by Doug Varone and Sean Curran, and her choreography was presented in Second Avenue Dance Company concerts alongside works by Mark Dendy, David Dorfman, and Doug Varone.  She received an M.F.A. in Dance with an emphasis in choreography and performance from the University of Maryland at College Park in 2002.  At UMCP she danced in works by Maurice Fraga, Mark Haim, Gesel Mason, David Parsons, Meriam Rosen, Ed Tyler, Doug Varone, Anne Warren, and Sara Pearson and Patrik Widrig.  Her work, Meeting  Falling  In, was chosen to represent UMCP in the May 2002 National American College Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center.  Jennifer was also
nominated by the Metro DC Dance Awards for Best Emerging Choreographer in 2001 (www.metro-dc-dance-awards.com).  Jennifer has updated her pilates certification, and is now a certified instructor of the Pilates method and matwork.
Elliott - (Ballet/Musical Theatre/Tap Instructor)
Elliott Scher is a graduate of Wagner College where he received his B.A. in Musical Theatre. Elliott's main area of expertise is Musical Theatre, but he is also well versed in tap, jazz and ballet.  He has performed Off-Broadway at the Century Theatre, The Walt Disney World Resort, John's Hopkins University and most recently, Toby's Dinner Theatre. Elliott graduated from the Carver Center For The Arts where he studied acting and dance under the direction of Ken Skrzesz. Elliott has also studied with Broadway veterans such as Ann Reinking, Kathy Brier, Richard Adler, Norb Joerder, Billy Johnston, Michelle Tolson & Nancy Nelson of the Radio City Rockettes, and Rusty Curcio of the Trockadero Ballet Co. His classes are fast-paced and technically demanding, but he seeks to inspire students to reach a better understanding of musicality, style, and connecting their inner-self to their work and performances.
Carole - (Artistic Director)
Carole has been dancing for the past twenty-four years and spent the past thirteen as an instructor.
She prefers ballet, although exemplifies great knowledge and appreciation for all forms of dance including jazz, modern, tap, and lyrical. Carole received the majority of her ballet training with the Ballet Theater of Maryland, formerly the Ballet Theater of Annapolis and the Central Maryland Ballet Company.  She has also had the opportunity to study with other prestigious schools such as the Washington Ballet, Boston Ballet II and Goucher College.  Carole has many years of performance and production experience  in classical ballets such as, The Nutcracker Suite, Firebird, Sleeping Beauty, Paquita, Cinderella, and Swan Lake, with the Washington Ballet School, Ballet Theatre of Annapolis and Central Maryland Ballet Company.  She has taught programs in dance and fitness to students from ages two to eighty-five of all ability levels. She is also an excellent adult instructor for all levels.  Carole has choreographed several pieces for full length ballets, musicals, recitals, as well as tap, jazz & lyrical competition routines.  Her classes focus on strong, clean and precise technique through training based on the Cecchetti syllabi.  She has also attained certification with the American Aerobic Association by completing their training and testing program.   Carole continues her study locally at the Maryland Dance Institute and various other local schools.  Additionally, Carole travels to New York and other cities to take technique classes and training workshops focusing on professional dance instruction and choreography that she can pass to her own students.  Currently, Carole is not only directing and teaching at Art of Motion, she is also teaching at MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art).
Bethany (Ballet/Jazz/Modern Instructor)
Bethany Kwasniewski has a B.A. in dance with a teaching/choreography concentration from Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA.  While at Mercyhurst, she choreographed works for the Raw Edges student choreography showcase and for the Bayfront Dance Youth Company.  She has
performed both classical and contemporary choreography with: the Mercyhurst Dance Ensemble, Mercyhurst Liturgical Dance Ensemble, Point Park International Summer Dance, Verona Liturgical Ballet, and Baltimore Ballet.   She has taught at local studios including: Baltimore Ballet, Cecil Dance Center, and Arabesque Dance Studio in Columbia.  She has set full-length ballets including: The Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and Coppelia as the resident choreographer for Cecil Junior Dance Troupe from 2004-2006. As guest choreographer for Cecil Dance Theatre, Miss Kwasniewski's choreography has been performed at Maryland Dance Festival and the 2005 Miss
Maryland/Delaware Pageant.  Bethany has also assisted the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp ballet ensemble under the direction of Jefferson Baum in Twin Lakes, MI.
Emily - (Ballet/Jazz/Modern Instructor)
Emily began training with the Helena Baron School of Ballet where she studied under Helena Baron, Ralph Di Rienzo, Brunilda Ruiz, Paul Sutherland and Vladimir Dvorovenko. From there Emily was accepted into Goucher College where she studied all forms of performance and social dances. Goucher’s conservatory-like training allowed Emily to expand her ideas of what dance is and also what dance should become, which she hopes to pass down to her new students. At Goucher College, Emily studied Dance, Dance History and Art History while performing with the nationally renowned dance history company Chorégraphie Antique. Emily graduated from Goucher in 2006 with a B.A. in Dance and Art.
Kat - (Tap/Young Children's Program Instructor)
Kat began her professional training at the age of nine when she was accepted as an apprentice member of the New Jersey Tap Ensemble. While still in high school, she joined the First Company as a principal dancer and performed at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Though tap will always be her first love, Kat has studied and taught ballet, modern, jazz, lyrical, ballroom, flamenco and various forms of social dancing. She is currently a senior at Goucher College and will graduate in May with a B.A. in dance and history. In addition to completing coursework in anatomy, choreography, dance notation and aesthetics, Kat has reconstructed several dances for Goucher’s dance history ensemble, Choreography Antique, and was selected to perform in a new modern work set by guest artist Adrienne Clancy. She was commissioned to choreograph a tap routine for the Bryn Mawr School for Girls Upper Dance Company and has studied under Barbara Duffy, Deborah Mitchell, Paris Mann and Karen Calloway-Williams. In 2005, Kat received a scholarship to Oxford University where she studied the representation of performance in fine art, taught for the Oxford University Dance Society and choreographed the ballroom scenes for the first ever stage adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Emma.” Kat has been teaching dance for seven years and is proud to join the staff at Art of Motion Dance Center.
Dawn - (Hip Hop Special Guest Choreographer)
Dawn Angelique Richard was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Creole/Haitian beauty wanted to be a performer since early childhood, showing a knack for writing, composing, singing, dancing, and acting. Performing is in her roots as her father was a member of the band Chocolate Milk. Her mother owned a dancing school where Dawn spent much of her childhood developing her skills at choreography and singing.

Not only was she an exceptional performer, but she was also a talented athlete. This homecoming queen was a high school national basketball champion as well as a state bowling champion. Dawn later began performing with a local group who called themselves Realiti before blossoming into a solo artist by the name of "Dawn Angelique." She performed throughout New Orleans before venturing out to events such as the Louisiana Jazz and Heritage Festival, New Orleans Black Heritage Festival, American Teen Beauty Contest in Orange County, and California. Throughout all this Dawn understood the importance of her education and attended the University of New Orleans under a full scholarship. She continued her dedication to dancing by performing with the New Orleans Hornets cheerleading squad for two years--becoming captain the second. In 2005, Dawn auditioned for the MTV show Making the Band 3 in Orlando, where she was chosen to compete for a spot in Diddy's future girl-group. After a season of drama, competition, and friendships, Dawn made the band along with Aubrey O'Day, Aundrea Fimbres, Wanita "D.Woods" Woodgette, and Shannon Bex. together, they form "Danity Kane". Their debut album will hit stores Aug 22.
Flavia (Ballet Instructor)
Flavia hails from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.. She has been engaged in dance and other physical activities ever since she was four years old. At the age of ten she began taking Ballet Classes and at the age of 15 was accepted at the Maria Olenewa Escola de Dancas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which belongs to the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro. At the same age began teaching ballet lessons to children in Rio de Janeiro and also in local Brazilian dance studios.  Currently, she has been participating in a Dance Project with some of Marylands top colleges and continues to teach ballet in local studios throughout the area.
E.C. (Contemporary / Modern Instructor)
EC's undergraduate studies are from the University of MD. She received a degree in the Visual & Performing Arts with a concentration in dance. Her graduate courses at NYU focused in: choreography/production with an emphasis on arts administration.  EC has been a member & toured with Eleo Pomare Dance Co, Sesame Street Live & other companies across the country.  She is also a certified AFFA group ex instructor & teaches throughout the Balto/Wash area.
Quante (Hip Hop Instructor)
Quante was born in Baltimore, MD and has had a love for dance and music all her life. She started taking dance seriously in high school where she joined Long Reach Dance Company in Columbia, MD. She attended Howard Community College where she majored in journalism and dance performance. She also loves to write poetry and music. While she was at Howard Community College she taught jazz, modern, and hip-hop classes, also did choreography for dance shows. In 2001 she decided to put together her own dance group called “Queens of Dance” which was based in Columbia, MD. The group consists of six girls and they performed a variety of different types of dance in different places such as churches, colleges, dance festivals, parties, etc. Quante prefers hip-hop, however she is trained in modern, ballet, tap and jazz. She describes her Hip Hop style as “sophisticated hip-hop, its very classy and clean with a touch of technique”. She currently attends Towson University majoring in dance education. She is a senior pursuing her B.A. in dance education.
